United Kingdom and The Republic of Ireland Post Anglo-Irish Treaty

After the Easter Uprising of 1916, Ireland began the Irish War of Independence against the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Five years later, the Anglo-Irish Treaty created the modern outcome of what is today the Republic of Ireland. The Republic of Ireland became an independent country. However, Northern Ireland became a devolved government because the United Kingdom delegated regional power to Northern Ireland. To this day, the Republic of Ireland is still essentially three fourths of its total island. The Republic of Ireland is predominantly Catholic and independent whereas Northern Ireland is mainly Protestant and historically loyal to the U.K.
