The Silk Road

The Silk Road was a great connector of groups through the use of the Greek language. The Silk Road went from China, central Asia, and the Mediterranean. En route, the Silk Road facilitated the distribution of goods, ideas, religion, and language. A development of this exchange is the use of the Greek language in trade. Because of Hellenism's prevalence during Alexander the Great's expansion, Hellenism spread and traveled farther than Afro-Eurasia. With this came the use of the Greek language in many places. Eventually, Greek was used in many areas from Egypt, the Kushan empire, and the Parthian empire. Not only was it beneficial in trade, but it also allowed people to engage in more areas of life such as Greek philosophy, writing, and drama. The shared use of Greek truly connected these groups and facilitated a growth in economy, culture, and ideas along the Silk Road, influencing these societies for years to come.
